Lesson 22
When not to post the same photo twice
Why it matters
Reusing a photo isn't always laziness, but sometimes it is. This lesson teaches you to tell the difference between reusing content for a real reason and posting the same thing because you have nothing new to say.
What you already know
You need Lesson 6 before this one: 6. How you know it worked.
Definitions
Reuse with a reason: you use a photo again because the context changed — an anniversary, a recap, an honest before-and-after comparison.
Repetition without a reason: you post the same photo again because you didn't shoot anything new that week and want to fill the calendar.
Read
The question that decides it is: did anything change since the last time I posted this? If the answer is yes — new context, new audience, a real anniversary — reusing it makes sense and can be explained in the caption. If the answer is no, posting it again just fills space without saying anything.
Filling the calendar isn't the goal. Lesson 9 already said silence is also a decision. Repeating without a reason is worse than silence: it takes up your account's space without giving your followers anything new.
If you have nothing new, the honest option is the silent day, not the repeated photo.
Correct example
A year after HashCrack's first night, you post that photo again with a caption that says: “We started here a year ago.” The context changed: it's now an anniversary, not the same news.
Wrong example
You had nothing to post on Thursday, so you re-upload last Saturday's photo with no new caption, just to “not leave the day empty.”
Try
Write one example of your own reuse-with-a-reason and one example of repetition-without-a-reason. Explain in one line what changed in the first case.
Check
1. What is the deciding question? Did anything change since the last time I posted this? If nothing changed, there's no real reason to repeat it.
2. Which is worse: repeating without a reason, or silence? Repeating without a reason, because it takes up space without giving anything new. Silence is at least honest.
3. What makes a reuse valid? A real new context — anniversary, comparison, recap — explained in the caption.
What you can do now
You can tell a justified reuse apart from an empty repeat, and choose silence instead of repeating without a reason.
